Marres & Jester present the curatorial team for the next edition of the group exhibition.
Marres (Maastricht, NL) and Jester have chosen the curatorial team for Currents 11. Together, Harriet Middleton Baker, Michał Grzegorzek, Nadim Choufi and Lucas Odahara will curate the 11th edition of the group exhibition. The team met each other at the Jan van Eyck Academy and come from different places (Berlin, London, Beirut, and Warsaw). They are also active in diverse fields of work: Lucas, Harriet and Nadim Choufi are visual artists with a shared interest in historical power structures and alternative futures. Michal, as a writer and curator, focuses on queer theory in the visual and performance arts.
With Currents, Marres and Jester offer starting artists and curators an opportunity to contribute to an international infrastructure for talent development. After 10 previous editions with a total of more than 175 participants, Currents has become one of the most important development platforms for visual arts in the Euregion. The group exhibition will show work by recently graduated artists from academies in the southern Netherlands, Belgium and North Rhine-Westphalia. The event will be embedded in a broader mentoring program with a central focus on training, networking and professionalisation. Currents 11 will take place from 21 September to 3 November 2024 at Marres, House for Contemporary Culture in Maastricht.
