Dominik Gajarský is a Prague based artist and musician. Through his intermedial work, he engages with themes such as memory, otherness, nostalgia, myths and fables, and the interplay between natural and artificial systems. Gajarský often combines visual and auditory elements to explore symbolic and historical contexts, bridging past and present. His process frequently involves translating one medium into another and creating poetic narratives that invite open-ended interpretations. The artificiality of constructed environments and the tension between human and natural worlds are also recurring motifs in his art.
Gajarský is also an active musician. Under the moniker Slowmotiondancer he is producing, mixing and mastering music production on the Czech and international scene. He composed several soundtracks for performances, theatre shows, short films, documentaries and sound art installations for exhibitions.

Gajarský was selected for a two-month residency at Jester, as part of the Connecting Horizons 2024 project by the Czech organisation Petrohradská kolektiv. During his stay, he works on the material for his upcoming autumn exhibition in Holešovická Šachta, which will be a continuation of his previous exhibition Sandman in the Berlínskej Model gallery (Prague). The exhibition will include  a series of physical works such as prints, drawings, objects, as well as material for a live reading/sound installation. Also, since music making is the integral part of his artistic practice, works on a new music album and collaborative EP with other artists.

Gajarský studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (New Media Studio II/ School of Anna Daučíková) and interned at UdK in Berlin (Josephine Pryde studio). He completed his PhD studies at the UMPRUM - Academy of Arts, and co-directed their Studio of Fine Arts III (Intermedia). He was a finalist for prestigious awards such as the Leinemann Foundation Award in 2014 and the Jindřich Chalupecký Art Award in 2017.
He regularly participates in solo and group shows, and his work has been exhibited and presented in prestigious venues such as Close-Up Cinema and greengrassi in London, Pioneer Works, Union Docs, Cantina Royal in New York, Czech Centre in Berlin or National Gallery and Rudolfinum gallery in Prague.

The Connecting Horizons 2024 project by Petrohradská kolektiv offers international residency opportunities, creating new pathways for Czech based artists to engage in global cultural exchange. It was funded by the National Recovery Plan of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic with support from the European Union.
