Currents 11: The Turn of Many Suns

In 2024, Marres Maastricht and Jester in Genk (BE) jointly present the exhibition Currents 11: The Turn of Many Suns. A young team will curate the exhibition, showcasing work by recently graduated artists from academies in Belgium, North Rhine-Westphalia and the southern Netherlands.

Initiated in 2013, Currents is a recurring group exhibition that showcases work by recent graduates from different art academies, brought together by a team of emerging curators. The exhibition is embedded in a broader coaching program for the participants that centers on training, networking, and professionalization.

This year’s Currents 11: The Turn of Many Suns, the first edition coproduced by Jester and Marres, presents the work of fourteen artists who have spent the past years living and studying in the Meuse–Rhine Euroregion. They highlight the cultural, social, and political relations that call into question, expand, and at times undo the fabric that defines a region and regional education. The works in The Turn of Many Suns choreograph a shifting beyond the school walls and into a collective, albeit unknown, future.

Jester and Marres invite you to the public opening of Currents at Marres (Capucijnenstraat 98, Maastricht) on Saturday, 21 September 2024 at 5PM.
Everybody is welcome and the entrance is free! No need to buy a ticket or make a reservation.
